Meet Gracie and her tribe... left to right and top to bottom... Gracie came to live with us about 11 years ago at the age of 6. She loves to be fed peaches, apples, bread, cereal, etc., as do the others, but the grass and weeds which God provides for them suffices quite well. Gracie is very entertaining when eating peaches - she spits out the seed after eating 'the good part'. Next is Eeyore, our only spotted jenny and a daughter of Gracie as is Evey, the following photo. Last of the jennies is Baby Kate (not pictured), the 2006 offspring of Gracie and Andy. Baby Kate was very friendly and loving from birth, always wanting to be petted. She looks just like her mom. Andy (also not pictured at this time) is our jack. He is grey in color. We will add this years babies as they are foaled. We have two on the ground right now; just a few days old.
We sell the jennets for $300 and the jacks for $200. Greta, Andrea, Babe, Ditto, Festus, King Solomon, Dumbledor, and Barney have gone to homes as pets, guard donkeys, and/or breeding stock. Here at Sundance Ranch they serve all three of these purposes - and quite well at that!
Next are photos of the bunnies who live in The Bunny Hop at Sundance Ranch. We have some very nice bunnies which Callie takes very good care of. Mom advises and helps in the management process. Callie is using the rabbit experience as her SAE project in FFA during her high school years, which are just beginning this fall. The first photo is of Ty, our Mini Rex buck, followed by Velveteena, our Mini Rex doe. Mini Rex are known as the 'original Velveteen Rabbit'. Following are the Netherland Dwarf bunnies: Happy (buck), Bashful (doe), and Dopey (doe). Netherlands are the smallest breed of rabbit. Next are the Mini Lops: Mr. Mini Lop (buck), Shoes (doe), and Sugar (doe). Mini Lops are very popular due to their lopping ears. They make great pets. On to meet Hector, our Dutch buck, along with our does, Heidi and Hildy. Dutch are quite striking due to their special markings. Last, but not least are the Holland Lops: Strudels (buck) and Snicklefritz (doe). Hollands are a smaller version of Mini Lops. We are working on raising Lionhead, Flemish Giant, and Harlequin.
We sell our bunnies for $15 each and wean between 5 & 8 weeks... preferably at 6. (We will also be adding meat rabbits in the near future... New Zealands... but don't discuss it with Callie. She hasn't warmed up to the idea quite yet - probably never will... Honestly, it isn't my favorite part of ranching either, but you adjust with time and just have to realize the purpose each animal is to serve.)
